Touch Screen Overlay Installation Guide

From unboxing the frame profile to a calibrated, driver-verified touch surface: the installation sequence our integrators follow.

What you need on the bench

The overlay kit, the display (powered and showing a picture), the host device, a tape measure, a soft cloth, and an hour without interruptions. The kit's contents and pattern are described on the overlay kit page; this guide is the sequence integrators follow after the carton opens. It assumes an infrared frame kit; foil installation is a lamination process covered in the touch film article.

Step 1 — Dry-fit against the drawing

Before anything is fixed, assemble the frame profiles on the bench and lay the drawing next to them. Confirm the outer dimensions against the order drawing and the display's cabinet measurements. Every legitimate complaint in this product class traces back to skipping this five-minute step and discovering a size assumption at the wall.

Step 2 — Mount the frame

Seat the frame on the bezel so the sensing windows — the dark strips inside the profile — are unobstructed and parallel to the glass. Fix with the profile's brackets or mounting points; do not over-torque aluminium profile. The frame's active field sits a few millimetres above the glass: nothing should bridge that gap, including cable ties, labels or enthusiastic amounts of tape.

Step 3 — Connect USB, alone

Run the frame's USB lead directly to the host for first power-up — no hubs, no extenders. The host should enumerate a HID touch device with no driver installation on current Windows, Android or Linux. If it does not enumerate, change the cable and the port before suspecting the frame; in field statistics it is the lead, not the sensor.

Step 4 — Calibrate

Run the supplied calibration utility: touch each target centre precisely with the object users will actually use (finger for kiosks, stylus for whiteboards). Then test the edges and corners with slow drags — edge linearity is where installation quality shows. On multi-segment or large frames, follow the extended procedure in the splicing calibration notes.

Step 5 — Set the software for touch

Increase target sizes, disable hover-dependent interactions, and set the kiosk or whiteboard software to start on boot. A technically perfect frame under a mouse-designed UI still feels broken to users.

Troubleshooting quick table

Dead band along one edgeSensing window obstructed or profile not parallel — inspect the gap along that edge
Touch offset grows toward cornersCalibration skipped or done with the wrong object — recalibrate
Intermittent dropoutsUSB power through a hub or a damaged lead — direct-connect with the supplied lead
False touches in sunlightDirect sun on the sensing field — shade the install or respecify; see IR vs PCAP
